FAQs
What kind of safari packages are available?
Safari packages in Tanzania range from budget camping tours to luxury lodge safaris. Options include game drives, walking safaris, cultural tours, and even hot air balloon rides. Packages can be customized to focus on specific interests such as wildlife, photography, or cultural experiences.
At Puzzle Safaris, we offer mid-range and luxury packages tailored to suit your tastes.
How do I choose the right safari operator?
Look for operators with good reviews, a commitment to conservation, and who offer the type of experience you're looking for. Ensure they are registered and licensed. Personal recommendations and detailed itineraries can also help you make a decision.
What types of accommodations are available on safari?
Accommodations range from basic camping sites and mid-range tented camps to luxury lodges and exclusive boutique hotels. Options are available to suit various budgets and preferences, all offering unique experiences close to nature.
Are safaris suitable for families with children?
Many safari operators offer family-friendly packages with activities suitable for children as young as 6 months old. Certain lodges and camps provide family accommodations and programs designed to educate and engage younger travelers about wildlife and conservation.
How much physical activity is involved in a safari?
The level of physical activity depends on the type of safari. While game drives are generally sedentary, walking safaris, hiking, and some cultural tours involve more physical activity. It's important to select a package that matches your comfort and fitness level.
Puzzle Safaris is a sports safari operator, so we specialize in making sure you engage in as much physical activity as your heart desires!
What is the group size for typical safari tours?
Group sizes vary by tour, with options ranging from private safaris to small-group tours. Smaller group sizes offer a more personalized experience, but larger groups can be more economical. Details about group size and the guide-to-guest ratio are usually provided by the safari operator.
We at Puzzle Safaris focus mostly on private safaris, however, we can make exceptions for specific cases.
What kind of vehicles are used for game drives?
Safari vehicles are typically modified 4x4 Toyota Land Cruisers and Land Rover Defenders 110, equipped with open or pop-up roofs for optimal wildlife viewing. Vehicles are designed to navigate rough terrain while providing comfort and safety for passengers.
We enjoy driving Land Rover Defenders here at Puzzle Safaris.
Is there Wi-Fi available in safari lodges and camps?
Many lodges and camps offer Wi-Fi, though the reliability and speed can vary, especially in remote areas. Guests seeking a digital detox or a break from connectivity will find many opportunities to unplug and immerse themselves in nature.
Can safaris be customized to focus on specific wildlife or activities?
Yes, many safari operators offer customizable packages that can focus on specific wildlife interests (e.g., birdwatching, big cats, the Great Migration) or activities (e.g., photography workshops, cultural experiences, conservation projects).
Discuss your interests with us at Puzzle Safaris to tailor your experience.
What language is spoken by safari guides and staff?
In Tanzania, the official languages are Swahili and English. Safari guides, drivers, and most staff at lodges and camps are fluent in English and often in other languages as well, ensuring smooth communication with international guests.
Is it possible to extend my safari to visit Zanzibar or other destinations?
Many visitors choose to extend their safari with a trip to Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, or other destinations in Tanzania or East Africa. Safari operators can assist in arranging these extensions, offering a seamless transition from safari to beach relaxation or mountain trekking.
What payment methods are accepted for safari bookings?
Puzzle Safaris requires a deposit via bank transfer, credit card, crypto payments, or online payment platforms, with the balance due before the safari begins. In the case of last minute safari bookings, cash in person is also accepted.
How early should I book my safari?
It's advisable to book your safari at least 6-12 months in advance, especially if you're traveling during peak seasons or wish to stay in popular lodges or camps. Early booking ensures the best availability and often better rates.
What is the policy on single travelers?
Single travelers are welcome on safaris by booking private tours. Single supplement fees may apply for private accommodations.
Can I charge my electronic devices during the safari?
Yes, our safari vehicles, along with the lodges and camps, are equipped with charging stations or offer facilities to charge cameras, smartphones, and other devices. However, it's wise to bring additional power banks for long days in the field.
Is there a recommended packing list for safari?
We will provide you with a detailed packing list, but essentials typically include comfortable, breathable clothing, sturdy footwear, sun protection, a hat, sunglasses, a camera, and binoculars. Remember to pack lightly, especially if your safari involves internal flights with luggage restrictions.
What travel insurance do you recommend for safari?
Choose a travel insurance policy that covers medical emergencies, evacuation, trip cancellation, and loss or theft of personal items. Ensure it's valid for the duration of your stay in Tanzania and covers all safari activities.
Can I use my drone for photography or videography during the safari?
The use of drones is restricted or prohibited in many national parks and conservation areas for wildlife protection and privacy reasons.
Please let us know in advance if you would like to use a drone during your trip, as drone usage will require an extra fee, if allowed at all, in the parks.
How can I stay connected with family or work during the safari?
While remote areas may have limited connectivity, many lodges and camps offer Wi-Fi or satellite internet. It's a good idea to inform family and colleagues of potential unavailability and embrace the chance to disconnect.
Why is there such a large range in the package pricing?
Our packages are completely custom. What you see on the package is meant for you to get a general idea about what you will experience with this particular route and duration. From there we build your adventure around the following: time of year (which influences the price of accommodation and park fees), type of accommodation (we offer mid-range and luxury packages, and pricing for luxury is a bit more expensive), package inclusions (such as activities like hot air balloon rides and mountain biking), amongst other things.
